Datacard Group Provides End to End Solutions for Nationwide Secure ID Program in Montenegro

Program provides solutions from enrollment to issuance for passports, national IDs, driver's licenses and other secure documents.

May 26, 2009, Minnetonka, MN — Datacard Group, a leading provider of secure personalization solutions, announced that the Datacard® MX6000™ card issuance system, the Datacard® PB6500™ passport issuance system and extensive IT suite have been chosen as part of a complete solution to enroll, adjudicate and personalize Montenegro’s national identification and travel credentials.

A primary driver in the decision-making process was the fact that the MX6000 and the PB6500 are both built on the same platform, share the same user interface and use the same parts for repair and maintenance needs. This made deployment and support of the issuance systems much more efficient and cost effective as well as expediting the training process.

A priority for Montenegro was to ensure that their identification credentials offered the highest levels of security and fraud prevention, while being in compliance with European Union standards and ICAO 9303 recommendations.

The e-passport design utilizes an electronic chip embedded into the polycarbonate data page which makes it fully interoperable and in compliance with ICAO 9303 requirements. The passport, national ID card and driver’s license are also laser engraved, making them highly resistant to fraud and counterfeiting.

Since rollout more than 93,000 passports, 152,000 national ID cards and nearly 70,000 driver’s licenses have been issued. Montenegrin government officials and citizens alike have expressed their acceptance and approval of both the documents themselves and the efficiency with which the program has been deployed.
